Watermelon Thyme Gin Fizz

Lets talk about summer.  Love it.  I can’t get enough of the sunshine, warm weather, and BBQ’s.  On the rare occasion that Whit wants a night off from the stove/oven I get the opportunity to grill.  I am (like most men) obsessed with grilling. (MAN. MEAT. BIG STICK. ARGHHH!)  Something about fire and raw meat just gets me going.  I will admit that almost anything I cook on the grill could be prepared better by Whitney inside but that is besides the point. (almost? yea right, brah. I could beat you blindfolded.) The act of grilling is enough for me to forgo her master chef’ery.

As you know grilling can get hot, what with the fact that there’s fire and its summer.  So, while I am manning the grill station I always like to have one of two things by my side.  A refreshing beverage or a tasty snack.  Now, wouldn’t it make a ton of sense for me to combine these two things into one so I could enjoy both simultaneously?  I know, genius, right?  So I put on my mixology wizard had and took a look around our apartment to see what I could come up with.  (you all know this was in no way, shape or form his idea, right?)
First, I went to the liquor shelf (yes we have an entire shelf dedicated to booze) (you guys don’t?) and grabbed the Gin.  Gin = Refreshing. (shit! if you’re a grizzly bear!  Gin puts hair on this girls chest…) Next I got some citrus fruits and the agave nectar.  At this point I had the makings of a fairly refreshing cocktail but this did not incorporate my need for a tasty snack.  I quickly remembered that we recently bought a watermelon and thought that would be great in this cocktail with just a touch of soda water on top for the “fizz”.  Finally I went to go stand with our grill for some extra inspiration for the final ingredient and saw our little patio herb garden.  With a little guidance from the main Boucher (why people think this is a good nickname for me, I will never know…) herself I finally decided to add a bit of Thyme to my concoction.   The drink itself was woodsy, refreshing, and delicious.  The perfect compliment to my man-crafting of a delicious medium rare steak. I hope you enjoy the Watermelon Thyme Gin Fizz.
