The Demise of Pumper Nickel and Whiskey Rye.

That one time, when I was inspired by the adventures of Pumper Nickel and Whiskey Rye, and made Russian Black Bread… remember it?

Well. I didn’t tell you. This other thing… that happened – see it was quite tragic.  Pumper Nickel got lost in the Russian Black forest and couldn’t find her way out, and well – it’s heartbreaking, but, she drowned.

In the Appenzeller Sea of cheese fondueskies. It was, horrific, Whiskey Rye, drunk with rage, couldn’t find her anywhere, and well, he drowned too.

So if anyone asks you where they went… they drowned, okay?

Cheese Fondue-skies.

1/2 lb. Gruyere Cheese
1/4 lb. Emmentaler Cheese
1/4 lb. Appenzeller Cheese
3 tablespoons unbleached all-purpose flour
1 3/4 cup dry white wine
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

Toss the cheese with the flour.

Place over medium heat and add the wine. Bring to a simmer and add the cheese mixture, one handful at a time. Stir in the nutmeg.

Stir over low heat until smooth and cheese is melted and bubbling. . Transfer the cheese to your fondue pot.

And all that was left, were limbs, bits and pieces. So tragic.

So, take care not to walk through the Russian Black Forest alone… You might drown in the Appenzeller Sea of Cheese.

Love,

Whit
